The Government of Madagascar has launched a social protection programme to assist families impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak through the use of unconditional cash transfers in urban and suburban areas. The beneficiaries of TOSIKA FAMENO, identified at the fokontany level and registered in the list of beneficiaries established by the respective municipalities, are very poor and vulnerable families, those most exposed to a risk of food insecurity as well as *those whose income is interrupted because of the lock down.*The amount of the transfer amounts to 100,000 Ariary per household, payable in a single installment , for the month of May 2020. A second transfer of the same amount (100,000 ariary) is planned. While only applying to very poor households, this measure still is a measure of income support that is independent of whether previous employment was in the formal or informal sector. As the level of income replacement is a flat rate well below 50 percent of median income, this is rated as 1A despite its limited reach. https://www.cnbcafrica.com/africa-press-office/2020/04/28/coronavirus-in-madagascar-a-social-protection-response-is-launched-in-urban-and-suburban-areas-to-aid-families-and-their-children-during-covid-19-pandemic/; https://www.fid.mg/tosika-fameno/#1590388088109-e657a849-66fd (see technical sheet for details)
