Announcement of Unemployment Support worth BZ $25 million (USD 12,136,200) was announced on March 16 and an Economic Oversight Committee was set up [ https://www.pressoffice.gov.bz/belize-announces-new-measures-in-response-to-covid-19/]. The government is offering $150 for every 2 weeks for persons who have lost their job as a result of Covid-19 and $100 every 2 weeks for persons who were unemployed even before the Covid-19 pandemic - this latter part is the rational for choosing 'all workers' [ https://www.pressoffice.gov.bz/update-on-covid-19-unemployment-relief-program/]. The national statistics office digest on labour statistics reports a median monthly income of $1,134 for Sept 2019 [ http://sib.org.bz/wp-content/uploads/LabourForce_2019-09.pdf]. Therefore, the support offered, roughly rounded to $300/ month is less than 50% of median income

“Social distancing” includes the practice of staying home. Every person must practice social distancing. Anyone practising sport is not required to social distance. While people can go out and many businesses are open there is still a curfew in place. This is coded as a 2 because people are required to stay home between these hours, and it is not a recommendation. The national statistics office digest on labour statistics reports a median monthly income of $1,134 for Sept 2019 [ http://sib.org.bz/wp-content/uploads/LabourForce_2019-09.pdf].
